Skincare Bits I Am Currently Loving

Hey peeps!

Skincare is so different from person to person, something that I love for my sensitive, dry, pimple prone and amazing skin you may strongly dislike for your oily and wondrous skin. It’s very hard to recommend skincare products as everyone has different skin, but one thing we all have in common and that we should always remember is that everyone’s skin is beautiful in it’s own special way. Today I am going to be sharing with you all my current favs in the skincare aisle aka my skincare routine.

The first thing I am going to mention in this post which also usually is the first step in my skincare routine if I am wearing makeup that day, and that’s the The Body Shop Eye Makeup Remover. Not gonna lie this is probably one of my best purchases in the year of 2017 as it does such an amazing job at removing makeup, and even if can feel it tingling my skin a bit it is a lot better than other makeup removers I have tried. Love it a lot!

Where do I start? I freaking LOVE Formula 10.0.6!
I know for a fact that this brand is available here in Sweden and in the US, I just checked and ULTA stocks this brand *squeals of excitement* and I believe Formula 10 is available pretty much everywhere. I am a huge fan of the fact that they are a affordable skincare brand, their products range from about 6-10 dollars and are made for troublesome skin. The product I am going to be mentioning in this post is their Be Berry Ready Daily Foaming Cleanser. If your skin gets dry just from washing your face with water just like mine, you’ll love this. I have this problem were my skin is very prone to pimples, but all the products you see for pimples claim to remove oil. My skin is dry and can’t handle that kind of stuff so knowing what to buy can be quite hard, I can’t be the only one with this issue?
When I was picking a cleanser I looked for one that didn’t claim to remove oil, which ended up being this one and it truly works for my skin. This bottle has lasted me for almost a year and it doesn’t dry out my skin like a lot of other cleansers do. Highly recommend it and it works well for pimple prone skin.

If I don’t use the Formula 10 cleanser, I’ll reach for this which I also am currently obsessed with. This is from a brand that I also highly rate that you probably haven’t heard of which is called Good Things. It is a brand made by a woman named Alice-Hart Davis and their products are made of natural ingredients which I think is very important. The product I am going to mention is their Deep Pore Anti Blemish Cleanser and Toner, but I do have several other products from them so I may do a review in the future. This does tingle my sensitive skin a little bit, but this is magic. I do not know what it is but if my skin isn’t very good that day and I have a lot of breakouts I’ll use this and it just makes my skin clear up a lot and so when I wake up I can tell a difference. I don’t tend to use it everyday as it’s quite intense on my sensitive skin but for anyone who has a lot of breakouts it’s great.

The next step to my skincare routine is this face mask, however I only use it twice a week as it states it on the back of it. It’s the Unani Dermo Defense Face Mask which is supposed to improve skin regeneration as well as hydrating the skin. This has a gel consistency and feels more like a moisturiser as it sinks in to skin and you nearly won’t be able to tell that it’s there. I don’t have that much to say about it, I guess you can say that I am still testing it out? The packaging is clean and sleek and I love the fresh smell, anything that will give my skin some extra hydration I am up for.

Oh serums. For me personally it’s a step that I do skip sometimes, being completely honest. My favourite serum is from Hey Honey and it’s their Honey Silk Facial Serum. This product is very versatile as it works for all skin types and sometimes I’ll use it as a light moisturiser or a base for my makeup as it provides a soft glow to the skin. This serum also calms down my skin, which I especially love after long days in the sun. Great for sensitive skin!

You can’t really tell in the picture, but my current moisturiser I’ve been loving is from NINNI and it’s their My Night Lemon and Rosemary Face Cream. I am aware that this is very expensive, but I’ve been using it a lot recently and I prefer it to all my other moisturisers. I don’t have that much to say about it other than that it does it’s job and moisturises my dry skin, I do think you can get moisturisers like this for a fraction of the price but I just love this one because of it’s more natural ingredients.

I may have been rambling a lot in this post but never the less I hope that you enjoyed the post! Let me know your recommendations for skincare products and brands as I love trying out new products.

My Blogging Journey

Hey my peeps,

It’s my blogiversary! Can you understand that I have officially been blogging on this blog for a year? I feel like every other blogger saying this, but time has just flown by. I thought for this special day I would blog about how my blog has changed my life (wow that’s deep) and also what I did before I made this blog. If you have any questions make sure to comment them down below as I am planning to make my very first Q&A post fairly soon (nudge nudge wink wink)…

It all started on an day when I was at home snuggled up in the sofa as I had caught a cold. This was back in 2013 when I was nine, and like any typical nine year old being sick I wasn’t having that much fun. At the time my dad was at home and suggested that I should start a blog, and I did hesitate at first as I hadn’t considered having a blog before. I was like “me? blogger?” but the thought of it truly excited me. After asking a few questions, I realised it was actually a possibility to have my own platform on the internet. Could you imagine the excitement I felt?

So what was my first blog about? It was a BOOK BLOG.

And no, I will not be giving you the link because it so not good looking (and I don’t want anyone to see it because I don’t want to hurt your eyes).

Yes, once upon a time I was a book blogger. I named my blog “Mina böcker” which translates to “my books” (very creative I know, but that’s were it started). On the 23 of April 2013, the same day I created my blog, I uploaded my first blog post were I did a review on some children book I read and loved. I carried on uploading book reviews about cartoons, children’s detective books and even a few YA books until November 2014. That’s one and a half years of blogging already!

With an makeup collection at it’s smallest I decided to start a beauty blog one year after I stopped posting on my book blog. I posted my first post on the 29 of November 2015 at the age of eleven. All of my blogs I had before my WordPress blog you are reading right now were Blogspot blogs (and WordPress is much better than Blogger).

I posted blog posts on my blog from November 2015, to a year later November 2016. I did Glossybox reviews, hauls and other stuff that fall into the beauty category. Even though the quality wasn’t there, I remember working so hard for my blog posts to be up in time. The summer of 2016 I spent a lot of time making blog posts to upload for a whole month, but the truth is a didn’t have a single follower. For a year I blogged on that blog without gaining anything, and I used to ask myself what I was doing wrong. I didn’t notice a supportive community on Blogger at all compared to WordPress, but I do have myself to blame for not even looking around at others blogs.

A few months went past, and on the 29th of January 2017 I moved from Blogger to WordPress! One year ago today that’s what I did, and it was amazing to start again new. I did move over all of my posts to this blog, but after that I deleted most of them. However I did save my very first blog post I made on my last blog on this blog (I mean you could check it out but please don’t).

It truly meant so much to me seeing people reading and supporting me and my blog! The point of this post was to thank you all for everything that my blog has achieved this year that has been and gone, and I hope I didn’t bore you with my little story of blogging experiences. One thing that I learned from doing this was that I started blogging in 2013 and it’s now 2018. That’s five years! But out of all of those years this past year of blogging has been my favourite.

How has blogging changed my life? Blogging has challenged me to start being prouder of what I have accomplished. It has made me think about what I want to do in the future, and also is helping me figure out who I am (that is very deep indeed, it’s not easy being a teen okay). I have made friends, and shared my passions with others.

I don’t mean to talk about myself like I am huge blogger and like I am telling my “super successful” story that is super inspiring. Because I am not perfect and I am still learning even if I may have been blogging for quite some time. In today’s society we get pressured to not feel good about ourselves or to not take credit for what we actually have done as we are considered selfish if we do that. Do you get what I mean? I often feel pressured to make disclaimers as I imagine myself sounding selfish otherwise. Whilst writing this post I have felt the need to finish this off with a disclaimer, but I need to stop apologizing for myself and start telling myself that “I actually did that!” I think everyone should start giving themselves credit for what they have done, you work hard everyday and you should be proud of yourself for that!

Without ending on too much of an emotional note,

5 Things I Have Done In 2018 To Improve My Blog

Hey my peeps!

As you know we aren’t even a month in to 2018, however I still wanted to make this post to let you know what I have been working on involving my blog. After coming back from my little break, I have felt more inspired than ever to make my blog the best it can be- using WordPress free services. Soon I am hoping to become self hosted, but to be honest you can do quite a lot without paying that little extra too. In this post I will let you in on some things about blogging for the second time, my last post was called Things I Have Learnt Through Blogging were I shared seven tips for blogging. It was very appreciated by you guys, and therefore I am excited to be doing something similar!

Filled In My Contact And About Page

It’s actually quite embarrassing! I was blogging for quite some time before I filled these in, and I really can not believe it took me so long to do it. If you don’t want to fill them in then that’s completely fine, but after doing it I am beginning to realise how important it is. If a brand or an other blogger wants to contact you, there is no information about you or how to contact you. You’ll open up the doors to many more opportunities for you and your blog, such as PR and collabing with other bloggers.

Took Some Pretty Pics

The next thing I have done is to take some “pretty pictures”. This may not make any sense for some bloggers, but for me I will usually take a picture of each and every product I want to mention in a post. I want to start taking pictures from different angles, and do more flat lays instead of “just” taking a picture of the product and so this is just my way of starting to experiment with the pictures I take. By saying a pretty picture I mean something like a shot of my vanity or something else were the focus isn’t on just one thing if that makes sense. The pictures throughout this post are what I like to call “pretty pics”, I am still working on them so be patient but I am really enjoying taking those kind of pictures!

Coded Text

Okay, for this one I am going to have to give a shoutout to May (aka the mango queen). She just recently made a post about some of her “not so secret” WordPress tips, and that post just made me understand coding. I have no idea how, but with some mangoes and magic it happened, and as you can see in this post I am trying it for the first time. When I first heard that you could code and did some research on this whole new world, I really didn’t understand. Hopefully anyone who is interested can learn from May’s or a whole load of other bloggers who have made posts about coding.

The code that I have been using the most in this post is
< big > texthere < /big >
It’s an very basic one, but it works. To use it you’ll have to take away all the spaces, and change the post to HTML to put it in.

Customized My Theme And Tried New Ones

Even though I did mention this in my blogging tips post, I am going to mention it again. You might be using the free wordpress service, but there is still a lot you can do! The more time and effort you put in to it, the better your blog will be looking as you gradually learn. If you are getting tired of your current theme, have a look at the available themes and if you find one you like you can press on it to find an option to have a look at a live demo.

Once you have pressed there you can see the theme in all of it’s glory, and you can also see what it would look like with your blog.

Now you can customize it however you want to, either just to try it out or if you are actually looking for a new theme. It’s great if you don’t feel like diving in to a new theme all at once.

I thought I would add some pictures and walk you through even though a lot of people may know about it, as for beginners it is lovely to have this tool available.

Made An Email Alias

For those of you who doesn’t know what an email alias is- it’s like having a new email account for a specific thing (in my case my blog) without having to create a new email. I do not know much about this, but I use Runbox and I just found “Aliases” in my menu and created one for blogging stuff. If I for some reason don’t want to use my alias any more, I can just delete it without deleting my actual email account. So it’s kind of like a nickname I guess? I hope my explanation isn’t too confusing, or maybe all of you already know what that is and I am just rambling oops.

Thank you for reading!

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I loved making it! Let me know in the comment section if you would like to see more of these kinds of posts- your lovely comments always make my day x

An Early 2018 Beauty & Skincare Haul

In today’s post I am bringing you my first haul of the new year! If I know myself right there will probably be quite a few of these.. anywho a little over a week ago I ordered of an website called Luxplus. Without going in to much detail, you basically sign up for a membership and then you can get loads of products from loads of different brands a lot cheaper (like a lot cheaper). For thirty days you get to try it for free, which I did and I love it. I am by no means sponsored even though it really seems like it (oops), it’s just a great site and I wanted to recommend it to all of you.  Before I get into the haul may or may not have placed three orders from there, (I bought a lot of presents) but this is the stuff I got for myself and I didn’t order all of it in one go! With that rambly introduction I am excited to share what I bought

The first thing that I got just called my name, and it is the Tony Moly Moisturising Aloe Sheet Mask. All my dry skin peeps out there, how lush doesn’t this sound!? I hear a lot about this brand, and so I just had to pick this up. Recently it’s been super cold and dry here were I live, and so I can’t wait to pamper myself and try this out.

I also couldn’t resist picking these up! These are by a brand called Pilaten and they are Black Head Pore Strips. It’s basically a clay that you put on, it dries in half an hour and then when you peel it off your blackheads should come with it. Whilst I am writing this I have actually already tried these, and they didn’t do much for me to be honest. It was satisfying to peel it off and everything, but it didn’t grab on to many blackheads.

I feel like the last person to buy an eyebrow pomade, I have just stuck to my trusty eyebrow powder but recently I have been more curious to try new products for my brows. I ended up picking up the Freedom Makeup Eyebrow Pomade in the shade Taupe, which I have been eyeing up for a while. At the moment my brows are like in between blonde and taupe, so I never know which shade to pick up but this worked great for me as it is cool toned. I was thinking about buying the NYX brow pomade, but the reviews seemed better for this product (let me know if you think I should try the NYX one too!), and the Anastasia Beverly Hills one felt a bit expensive for me not having tried a pomade before. As you can see on the picture I have already given this a try, but only twice so I can’t say much about it but so far it seems pretty good.

I ordered this liquid lipstick by Wet’n Wild Liquid Catsuit in the shade Missy & Fierce when I was looking for that perfect holiday red. Personally I don’t think I suit warm orange toned lipsticks, so I was so happy when I opened my package to see this cool toned beauty. It’s definitely what I was looking for, my definition of a perfect red. Even though it is a bit drying on the lips, for the price it is amazing. It lasts so long and I am so happy I picked this up (hoping to pick up more of these!).

This is probably my favourite thing that I got! This is the Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette, I heard a lot about this palette from various beauty gurus so I was dying to try this out. It has three contour/bronzer shades, a regular powder, an banana powder, one illuminating powder and two baked highlighters. Let me just say, swatching all the matte shades they felt like butter. They are so soft and I don’t understand that this is a drugstore makeup product! The baked highlighters did feel quite dry and chalky but they were gorgeous and the lightest one was blinding just on one swatch. I can’t wait to play around with this palette more, it was an absolute bargain.

The last thing I got wasn’t actually beauty or skincare related (I am so sneaky) but reading the reviews and the notes of this Yankee Candle in Dreamy Summer Nights I couldn’t resist. If I were to describe this scent I would say it smells of vanilla, but not in a super sweet way. At the same time it’s fresh and almost musky? It is described as “a relaxing blend of vanilla bean, heliotrope and a hint of woodiness—it spreads the subtle magic of a warm night in soft bloom”. It smells very dreamy and this candle was calling my name so I couldn’t resist.

Thank you so much for reading as always,

Where Have I Been? Blog Update

As you may have noticed I haven’t been uploading for about two months (oh god)! It’s been a while, but I am really excited to be back writing a blog post. I hope you all had a cosy Christmas with your family or loved ones in general, and even if you don’t celebrate it I hope you’ve been well. And of course, happy new year! For me 2017 was a year to remember, even though a lot of bad things have happened, there was a lot of good things to appreciate too. One thing that was a highlight for me was starting this blog, which also means my one year blogiversary is coming up. I started this blog on the 29th of January 2017, which is just insane how fast time has flown by.

So where have I been? These past two months I was stuck with homework, wrapping Christmas presents and watching The Try Guys (I am literally obsessed). Even though I missed blogging, I felt like I needed a break as I didn’t feel inspired at all.

Why didn’t I post? It was a combination of things, it started of with the editing program I use stopped working and nothing I tried using to edit pictures turned out like I wanted it to. If you didn’t already know I call myself a perfectionist, and whilst I was going through the process of editing pictures I had taken for a blog post I just didn’t see the point uploading posts I wasn’t proud of. At that moment I decided to take a break and come back when I was feeling up for blogging.

Even though I wasn’t posting on my blog, I was still reading other peoples blog posts which made me start comparing myself to other bloggers who are successful and I just felt like I wasn’t good enough. But sometimes I guess it’s okay to feel like that. The other day I was checking if the editing site would work for me, and yes it did. I didn’t have any excuses to not begin writing posts again, I was more excited than anything. With this said I hope you’ll all enjoy the posts I will be making, the support from all of you makes my day honestly.

I apologize for a very “rambly” all over the place blog post, but before I end this blog post I just want to thank everyone who has been reading, commenting and just supporting me in general. It means the world to me so I just want to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you (also I am at 120 followers which is just insane)!

See you soon peeps,
/Alice x

Korean Beauty Products Review

Hi everyone!

Recently beauty products made in Korea and those parts of the world have been really hyped up, and so when a family member of mine went there he picked up a few things for me! I wasn’t expecting it at all, but I got really excited to see if the products would live up to my expectations after hearing about them online. In this post I am going to be giving four Korean beauty products a review, and all of them come from quite popular makeup brands. I understand that of course not all Korean beauty products are amazing, but they are known to be very good quality. I hope you’ll enjoy this post!

Missha/Line Friends Eye Color Studio Mini:

This is by a brand named Missha, and it seems to be a collaboration with Line Friends. The one I have is called Sally which is the cute duck you can see on the packaging, and the actual eyeshadows are warm, peachy tones. There is one matte, one with a bit of a sheen and the other two are foils.
I think it’s a great palette to have if you want to play around with more colour as it’s a bit hard to use it by itself. Maybe using this alongside your everyday palette. The eyeshadows are pigmented, and they work as they should. As always the foils are best used with your fingers instead of a brush. Over all I think it’s a really cute palette (the packaging is adorable), and if you like these kinds of colours it’s worth checking out.

The Face Shop Trendy Nails Nail Polish:

This is the best nail polish formula I have ever used, and I mean it! I am so impressed with this formula, it is so opaque on one coat and it dries very fast without a top coat (I always use top coat when I paint my nails though). Red isn’t my favourite colour to paint my nails, but I do love this red a lot. I think this nail polish is amazing and if you ever see one I would recommend picking one up.

SkinFood Pore Fit Cushion Bottle:

I haven’t actually used this that much, I feel like it doesn’t really specify what it is? From what I understand it’s a cooling pore covering liquid. It’s definitely a unique product! You open it up at the top, and you’ll get a tiny mirror and a cushion applicator. At the top of the product you can twist it on and off, so you twist it on and press it down. Inside it will spray up product on to the cushion, and you then apply that on to your face. I hope that kind of makes sense, but I just feel like it doesn’t cover much and it does smell a lot. When I am wearing it I can smell it on my face the whole time I am wearing it. I guess I should try it out some more, but so far I am not that impressed.

The Face Shop Melting Color Lip Creamer:

Another product from The Face Shop (it’s in the shade “Cute Frodo”), and again it’s amazing. It’s marketed as a “lip creamer”, which makes it a bit hard to know what it is. I feel like it’s as creamy as a lip balm, and as pigmented as a lipstick. As you might know I don’t really feel like I suit orange tones on my lips, it’s not what I reach for but I love this anyway. It’s the most comfortable lip product that makes your lips look gorgeous and has a semi matte finish. This actually contains sugar which is supposed to be the reason why it’s so creamy. I don’t know what The Face Shop are doing but both of the products I have tried from them are amazing, and I do feel like they are top notch quality.

I hope you all enjoyed this post! I know this post was a little different but I hope it was interesting.

Disappointing Beauty Products

Hi everyone!

As you all know there are so many hauls and favourites out on the internet, and it definitely does get quite overwhelming with all the bits and bobs that you hear that you “need”. In this post I thought I would share with you all a few different beauty products that just didn’t work for me for one reason or another. Just remember that just because it didn’t work for me, doesn’t mean that it won’t work for you. If you have tried out any of these products, I am hoping they work for you!

Copy of Big Beauty Haul

The first product that I would count as an disappointing product is this Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid. This is a product that I know didn’t work for quite a lot of people, no matter the shade (but if you are interested, mine is in the shade Rebel Red). Judging from the name you expect it to be matte- which it is definitely not. I am not that bothered that it isn’t matte, I am bothered about the fact that it claims to be matte. Another thing that really makes this a no for me is the scent. It smells very floral, like actually really strong. You can smell it constantly while you wear it.
When I was trying this out, I applied it on my lips and after about two, three hours the smell had almost disappeared. I remember looking at myself in the mirror and it had faded, there was only a weird red outline around my lips (I guess if you get a more nude shade this wouldn’t be a problem). So basically that means that you will smell this the whole time the product is on your lips. I usually don’t have anything against my lip products having a slight scent, but this is just too much for me. The formula is very thick and mousse like, and as it doesn’t dry down it is very easy to smudge out. This was just a total fail for me.

This is the Maybelline Color Show 60 Seconds nail polish in the shade “Smoky Rose”. It might seem like I am kind of hating on Maybelline, but honestly I do love loads of their stuff! I actually own two of these nail polishes, but this is the one that disappoints me the most as it’s the darker one. I guess that this is my favourite disappointing product if that makes sense?
I just find that whenever I wear this nail polish, about a millimetre on the tip of my nail the nail polish fades. It’s really hard to explain, but it is definitely visible. Then it isn’t the best nail polish either, it doesn’t last that long. However, it is quite inexpensive so it’s up to you if you want to get it as I can imagine the lighter shades working better.

The next thing is this Nivea Nourishing Day Cream for dry skin. This does it’s job and moisturises perfectly fine, but yet again I can’t tell with the scent! It smells incredibly strong of perfume, you can smell it on your skin for quite a while. And I am not talking about a slight scent, it is quite over powering. But if you don’t mind scents then I guess this would work for you, but for my dry (sensitive) skin it just doesn’t work. I think it’s quite important for skincare products to not contain loads of perfume.

If you didn’t already know, The Body Shop is one of my favourite brands and I own a lot of stuff from them. So far this is the only product from them that I don’t like, and it’s the Mango Sugar Scrub. I like their cream scrubs, and so I decided to pick this up and give it a try. When I use this it doesn’t really feel like it’s doing anything, and it leaves a weird, sticky layer on the skin that’s just not comfortable (it doesn’t feel that moisturising either). Having tried several other product in the mango range, I feel like this doesn’t really smell like the other mango products either. It just wasn’t for me!

This is the Benefit Dew The Hoola cream bronzer, which I know was quite a fail for a lot of people. It’s a bronzer that only comes in one shade, which for me is a bit too orange toned. I just find the formula hard to work with, as it dries fast and for my skin tone I need just a tiny amount. Yes, it’s a versatile product that you can use for a lot of things- as your typical bronzer, mix it with foundation, use it to match your neck with your face and stuff like that. However for me it is kind of an hassle to use, and I don’t tend to reach for cream stuff often anyway. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad product, it’s just not what I expected it to be.

The last thing is this Nicka K FX Blending Sponge. I just find that this is so hard, it almost hurts using this sponge. If you wet this sponge it will hardly expand in size, I can’t tell a difference at least. Maybe I am using it wrong considering that it says FX on it, but there are better sponges out there. Another thing I noticed is that pink fluff from the sponge ends up on my face, which isn’t really what I want when I am blending out my concealer.

Thank you so much for reading! Love you all.
